Presentation of the Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton orphanage

Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton orphanage is located in the N’Dali diocese, Nikki municipality to be more exact, Biro district. Sisters inhabited this small village in 2007. Upon their arrival, Sisters explored the village and the surrounding area trying to introduce themselves to the local population. They identified the most urgent issues in their surroundings, especially the critical situation of the children, who took solace in their company not wanting to return to their parents. There was a clear need to deal with the problem of childcare and that started to be the main preoccupation of the sisters. With international help incoming, the orphanage took the name of the canonized widow, Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton. From then on children started to live in the suitable accommodations, consisting of the dormitories with bunk beds, the large dining room and well-equipped study rooms.

First missionary sisters, after they settled and acquainted themselves with the environment, took upon themselves to put into action one of the apostolates of the Institution concerning care of orphans, needy or abandoned. To enforce that in the beginning, with children in need living in Affamè, Sisters started to provide help within their homes. Among the children they helped in their households were those who needed to be brought in for needed care. With God´s help and the intercession of Mother Brandis, Sisters made progress. Cooperative of the palms plantation Affamè donated the space for the orphanage. By 2014, orphanage named after Mother Brandis, officialy started accepting girls without parents or those in difficult living conditions.

Sisters provided children with schooling, so they could help with their level of education, so they could speak better French and learn household jobs like working in the kitchen, in the garden, with chickens…etc.

Furthermore, the children work in a good atmosphere under the leadership of Sisters. Except for providing children with skills in physical labor, Sisters do everything in their power to equip them with a suitable level of education to help them in the future. To achieve that, the organization is structured in a way that children study together every night to have good results by the end of a school year. Sisters also provide spiritual guidance and lead children to recognize and put God in the center of their lives. Every night after the schoolwork, Sisters lead children in the prayer of the Holy Rosary. Children enjoy every meal provided and that’s also the time for fun and relaxation.

Saint Vincent De Paul

Good confession is the basis of perfection. Fraternal charity is the paradise of religious societies.

God never calls a person to a job that he does not see in him the proper qualities to fulfill it, or that he does not intend to give them to him.

Charity is the soul of the virtues; it is charity which attracts them, and above all which keeps them.
